It’s likely that the 1 in 3 adults who suffer from insomnia and sleep related troubles experienced similar problems as children. It’s widely understood that lack of sleep can impact a child’s ability to learn and grow, but little information exists about how to identify sleep troubles and ways to solve the problem.

Babies that lack proper sleep tend to be more irritable and have a more difficult time learning new tasks. Tired babies can easily succumb to fits of rage, often chalked up to a personality trait. School age children who lack proper rest tend to function below their innate ability level in school. They can even exhibit signs similar to that of a learning disability simply due to sleep deprivation. Before trying medicines or accepting the behavior, try testing the effects of a white noise machine.

What is a white noise machine?

The white noise machine was developed to aid those who are highly sensitive to noise pollution to achieve the deep peaceful sleep needed to remain alert and refreshed throughout the day.

White noise machines simultaneously emit a soft sound composed of every sound frequency audible to man. The result is a gentle hum that when exposed to, makes it difficult for the brain to subconsciously tune in to the distracting sounds that cause difficulty falling asleep and restless nights.

Winning the bedtime battle

Children require much more sleep than adults. Because adults need less sleep, they don’t always realize how little sleep their child receives compared to amount recommended by pediatricians. Oftentimes, the fight to get children to sleep seems like an uphill battle. Many parents think that as long as their kids aren’t falling asleep in classes or throughout the day, that they are getting the proper amount of sleep.

For kids who are highly sensitive to noise, falling asleep while other family members are still awake and making noises can be frustrating and fruitless. By placing a white noise machine in the child’s room, the sounds of the household are drowned out, allowing the child to fall easily into much needed sleep.

Using a white noise machine to improve concentration

Children with an acute distraction to noises not only experience trouble at bedtime, but at other times throughout the day when relaxation or concentration is required. Placing a white noise machine in the room with babies and toddlers during play allows them to concentrate more on the tasks and functions of their educational toys.

School age children can show marked improvement when studying or completing homework assignments in a room with a white noise machine. For some children and adults, outside noise distractions are detrimental to a steady stream of concentration. When the brain is not distracted by outside noise distractions, children may experience an increased sense of pride in their ability to grasp concepts and work out problems.

Because noise is such a constant factor in our lives, we’ve learned to tune out much of it subconsciously. For those who can’t or have a difficult time doing so, even the slightest amount of noise distraction can have major impacts on daily life that add up over the course of a lifetime. A white noise machine can often be the solution eliminating unnecessary crankiness and poor grades and the beginning of a refreshing life.

By describing the physical, personality, and temperamental territorial characteristics of Purrfect and Sophie, I can explain the bizarre relationship, or lack thereof, between two exceptionally spoiled pets. Logically, a huge cat can easily subdue a teensy weensy dog. Stereotypically, dogs torment cats. However, Purrfect and Sophie are anything but typical.
Uncommonly tall, Purrfect is also exceptionally lean. His agility is amazing. He leaps approximately five feet to reach his favorite snoozing place atop the entertainment armoire. We tell unbelieving friends he is a flying cat. Witnesses agree. In addition, he stands on his hind legs in the attempt to open the front door with his paws. Being raised alongside a toddler, Perfect also learns to quickly vacate when the children become too amorous.
Growing up with energetic children, Purrfect learns self-preservation tactics. Sometimes, hugs and cuddles resemble restrictive imprisonment. Usually he escapes via an upward flight to the highest perch. As an animal lover, I insist the children respect his safe zone. Nonetheless, he loves the children. I suspect he feels my children belong to him instead of him belonging to my children.
When the children play outside, he cries at the door until they return. After our outings, Purrfect races to the door in greeting. In addition to thinking we belong to him, we suspect Purrfect feels human. He eats a strange assortment of people food. As special treats, he prefers broccoli cheese soup and Arby’s roast beef instead of his boring and ordinary cat food. Also, like many humans, he loves to snuggle beneath the covers in slumber on a chilly night.
Similar to a person, Purrfect feels obligated to protect his domain. Despite being a sissy and hiding under the bed during a thunderstorm, he hisses at the mail lady. Currently undefeated, he successfully confronts any cat with the gall to invade his territory. Once, I mistakenly let my mom’s wayward cat in the house. Before she fetches him, fur literally begins to fly.
A much sturdier cat, I expect to find Purrfect sore and bleeding. However, the tufts of hair I find later belong to our unwelcome guest. Frequently, the children invade his personal space. On rare occasions, Purrfect bravely tackles my obstinately aggressive preschooler who forceful tries to engage a living playmate.
Although Sophie also enjoys a playmate, her stature limits activities. Sophie is a three-pound miniature Pomeranian puppy. Thus, steps are mountainous. Without assistance, comfy couch cushions are unattainable. When romping around the room, human feet represent a potential safety hazard. So, we view Sophie as a defenseless and delicate little pup. We are wrong!
In contrast to our preconceived views, Sophie is not defenseless. Under duress, she becomes a vicious bundle of fur. For example, when Sophie is hungry, she loses all sensibility. Knowing a found French fry will cause her a tummy ache; I endeavor to pull it from her clinched jaws. Unexpectedly, I find the baby sharp teeth embedded in my finger. She snarls. She bites. She wins. With the same force she uses to protect her food, Sophie asserts her opinion. An ear piercing bark follows any decision unsanctioned by Sophie. . My five-year-old son says: “she can do anything she wants, as long as she doesn’t bite. Consequently, Sophie ultimately rules the roost.
While ruling her roost, Sophie fiercely guards her chew toys. Despite her miniature size, she loves to play tug-of-war. She usually wins by default. She is tenacious. She is equally serious during mealtimes. Her food dish is sacred territory. However, she prefers not to eat alone. Better yet, she loves to be hand fed.
In addition to guarding her toys and her food, Sophie envisions herself the official greeter. She loves company. Like a child, she thinks anyone passing over her threshold comes specifically to entertain her. If she is awake, she gives and demands constant attention. She incessantly follows my Mother. She is an unfailing bathroom companion. Left outside the door, she cries. As always, she gets her way.
By comparing and contrasting the traits of two extremely spoiled pets, I paint a literary portrait of two extraordinarily different and yet strangely similar family companions, and establish a background for the following tale. Unable to physically help my Mother move, the children and I opt to baby-sit Sophie. Upon entering our house, Sophie immediately goes berserk. Like the metal ball in a pinball machine, Sophie runs back and forth exploring.
She steals my son’s toys and my daughter’s socks. Attacked by curiosity and hunger pangs, Sophie tries Purrfect’s cat food. Amid the obvious mayhem, Purrfect and Sophie meet. Expecting Purrfect to protect his domain, he is banished to the bedroom. While he is in the bedroom, Sophie taunts him. She scampers down the hall and barks at the door, then she races back to the safety of the living room. Getting no response, she repeatedly flits between the hallway and the living room.
Feeling sorry for Purrfect, I decide to let him release him from captivity if the children promise to guard Sophie against harm. Sophie excitedly anticipates a new playmate. Purrfect disagrees. Flustered by this unknown mobile ball of fluff, Purrfect heads for cover. He escapes to a remote corner under my bed. Now, Purrfect is becoming braver. He watches her from his sanctuary atop the entertainment center, and comes down only after she leaves.
A large cat intimidated by a small puppy seems perfectly preposterous. Approximately six times the size of Sophie, I expect Purrfect to uphold his reputation and establish his authority and proprietorship. Instead of Sophie cowering under the reproachful gaze of our beloved cat, he slinks away in distrust and fear. Despite my daughter’s attempts to reassure him, he maintains his distance. Unaware of his potential abilities to harm her, Sophie continually assumes her royal behavior. Sophie Wins.

You have your PSP but you have no way to download all the favorite and thrilling games around. How pathetic is that? All you have are games that even toddlers can play. You want more games that deal with great adventures and excellent graphics.

Is there a way to get free PSP game download?

Well, actually there is. Hold on to your seats and prepare for this exciting news. Yes, you can get free game downloads for PSP. There are many websites that offers free homebrew PSP games. These games are created by PSP amateurs and have very basic graphics and gameplay but they can be good for a few hours of fun.

Another alternative to download free PSP games is to join a PSP download membership site. There are a few PSP membership download sites such as PSPBlender and AllPSPGames that allows you to download unlimited PSP games for a one time fee.

Besides PSP games, you can also download unlimited PSP movies, music and more. The download speeds are faster and there are more variety of PSP games to download compared to free PSP download sites.

They even provide instruction on how to put PSP games on your PSP player. You can download at any time of the day. I recommend you buy a large sized capacity PSP memory stick as the PSP ISO or CSO files are usually quite large.

In general, each downloaded PSP game is around 500MB to 1GB in size. I recommend getting at least a 2GB or 4GB PSP memory stick. So even if you are awake in the middle of the night and you instantly have a great craving to download games, you don’t have to wait for the morning to come.

Just turn on your computer, visit your trusted site and presto! You can now download your desired PSP game.

Learning how to put baby to sleep properly is something many new parents are unknowingly failing at and getting this right is important and should not be overlooked. This article will explain the biggest mistake new parents make when learning how to put baby to sleep and give you some tips on how you can get your baby to sleep soundly tonight!Waking up to the startling cry of your baby and stumbling around in the dark trying to find a bottle isn’t one of the most fun activities in the world. So how can we avoid it and get a good night sleep?By creating good sleeping habits…The biggest mistake new parents make in regards to their new babies it teaching them bad sleeping habits. Examples of bad habits are putting the baby to sleep at different times and in different locations. If your baby does not get used to sleeping in the same spot at the same time, your going to have a very hard time getting him/her to start sleeping the way you want to. Another common mistakes it letting the baby fall asleep in your arms. If you continually do this, you will form a bad habit and every time the baby wakes up, it will need to you to cuddle it to sleep, you don’t want this. How to put baby to sleep properly…Unfortunately there is not one solution for every single baby, but here is one technique that you can implement straight away. It’s a simple bed time routine that works very well for pre-toddlers. 1. Take a bath with your baby.

2. Give him/her bottle or breastfeed.

3. Burp your baby.

4. Cuddle baby until it’s tired, not overtired, this is important.

5. Lay the baby down where you want it to sleep while it’s still awake.

6. Leave the baby to fall asleep.

When it comes to taking a baby on a cruise it may seem like a daunting experience, but just like every other holiday, it pays to research, plan and be organised. To start with, all cruise lines have minimum age restrictions, and these do vary greatly.

Disney Cruise Line will accept infants from 12 weeks, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Norwegian Cruise Line, Holland America, Princess and Carnival will take babies over six months. You may find however, for Transatlantic, Hawaii and South American cruises, children are required to be aged at least one. It is always best to check with your cruise agent, in order to get the most up to date information.

Choosing your cabin can be a bit more tricky when travelling with an infant, having a balcony may be beneficial, being able to sit outside whilst your baby catches up on its well needed afternoon nap, means you can still sit and relax and enjoy the weather, or fresh air, or maybe even just a bit of peace and quiet.

If you do prefer to go for an inside cabin, be aware of the lack of sunlight in the room, this can cause a bit of confusion for the young ones, as they do not know what time of day it is, even an outside cabin has the port hole window to provide natural light.

In most cabins you will find a mini fridge which you can store baby formula and food, it is best to check with your cruise agent for this, but cruise lines that definitely have these onboard are Princess Cruises, Disney Cruises and Royal Caribbean.

You will find that most cruise lines do not have baths in the cabins, apart from the suites. Disney Cruise Line does however have a split bath tub/shower combination. It most cases a detachable shower handle is the best alternative to ensuring your baby can still have a good wash without forcing them under the shower, which many children do not like.

On Disney Cruise Line, they have a curtain that separates off the bed areas, which is great for those with slumbering infants. It is always best to reserve a cot when you book your cruise, I know babies do tend to like their own comfortable bed and blankets; you could bring their favourite blanket with you, to make them feel more at home.

There are onboard activities for children on most ships, so you can take your child to go and play, learn and explore in their own areas. Disney Cruise Line has The Flounders Reef Nursery, which is designed for 12 weeks to 3 years old. With a soft play area, an activity room and even a quiet area for those who cannot stay awake through all the excitement. The parents can leave the children, they will of cause be provided with pagers, this is when the adults can go and have some time to themselves to enjoy.

An hourly rate is charged for the service, currently it stands at $6 per hour, as the service is very popular it is recommended you book up as soon as possible, to reserve your little ones playtime.

Activities will vary onboard, and you will find most cruise lines offer activities for the older children, these being 2/3 and older. Royal Caribbean and Celebrity do however; have a programme aimed at 6 months to 18 months called Aqua Babies. The itinerary and program will vary on each ship, but you and your infant can experience Musical Inspiration, Baby Gymnastics, I Love Animals and much more. These have been developed by early childhood experts at Fisher-Price and are hosted by trained youth staff. All children at Aqua Babies must be accompanied during all activity sessions.

Other cruise lines with great facilities are P&O, and Carnival. Both tend to have more toddler-focused activities but they do allow playtime for babies, with Camp Carnival offering set times for children under two to play, and P&O’s Ventura with their very own babies’ playroom, Tumblers. This does require supervision by parents, but is full of toys, soft play, and great fun for the infants.

Alongside daytime entertainment, you may want to have a night or two to yourself, to enjoy the shows, casino or to sit under the stars with a cocktail. Babysitting services are available on most cruise lines; Royal Caribbean offer in cabin baby-sitting for over 1’s, there is an hourly rate of $10, it is vital to book ahead.

P&O Cruises have night nurseries onboard, where parents can put their little ones to sleep; this service is available between 6pm and 2am. There is a beeper given to parents in case of an emergency, or even when the infants are playing up. This is a very popular service, and is normally offered on a first come, first serve basis.

It really depends on what sort of cruise you are looking for, some parents will enjoy the time to themselves, whereas others may want to take their infants with them to the shows, and spend time together in the evenings. Some parents take it in turn to do things onboard, giving them both a chance to see the ship.

When it comes to dining onboard, you are able to request highchairs in the restaurants; your waiter will be more than happy to help. Most families tend to go for first seating, which is normally at 6pm; you can even choose to sit just with your family if you prefer to be together.

With freestyle cruises offering flexible dining arrangements, you can choose your dining times and where you want to eat depending on what you prefer, this may suit those who have young infants and babies.

If you like nothing, more than a dip in the pool, you have to be aware of where your baby can swim. If they are not potty trained (this would apply to most children under two), due to United States Public Health (USPH) Regulations, children are unable to go in the main swimming pools with nappies on. Disney Cruise Line is an exception to this as they have separate areas, which are filtered differently, allowing babies with swim nappies on to use the pool. You may find the shallow, or splash pools allow infants in nappies, but you cannot guarantee this, and you should check before going for a swim.

In regards to nappies, wet wipes and formula it is normally recommended to take your own, the shops onboard will have limited stock, although they can be expensive. One of the best tips I have come across, is to take all your babies things onboard in a box, this can then be disposed of at the end of the holiday, and means more suitcase space for yourselves.

If you are worried about having to take tonnes of clothes, there are public laundries on Disney, Princess and QM2. You can however take detergent and wash any extra bits in the cabin, to ensure you have clean bibs, without having to take huge amounts with you.

In keeping your luggage down, you can hire push chairs onboard Carnival and Disney, Disney do not charge, but you do need to put a $200 deposit down, and Carnival charge $25 per week, and $6 per day. Bouncy seats and travel swings are available for rent as well.

You will be able to head off the ship when you are in port, seeing the sights with your baby experiencing new places, you may prefer to make you own plans at each place, shore excursions are an option, I would go through these beforehand and make sure they are appropriate for you and the family.

The best thing you can do is to think ahead, and try to work out exactly what you will need. Your cruise is about all of you enjoying yourself, and taking a baby onboard does not have to have restrictions. Simply planning your cruise, means as a family you can enjoy your time away from home.

If you want to know how much you will have to pay a babysitter in case you need to hire one, you can always refer to the net. The average babysitter rate is not hard to determine since some have already compiled the available data for you. For 2009, the estimated average wages of a babysitter is around $10-$11 per hour. Still, if factors such as the age and experience of the babysitter, the location, the number of children to be cared for and the time of day to be spent are to be considered, the rate can range from $5 up to $18 or even more.1. Your LocationNaturally you will prefer babysitters who are from the same area where you live. Hence, if you both live in a major city, you basically have the same costs of living expenses. It follows then that the prevailing average babysitter rate in a major city is higher that those in smaller metropolitan areas or towns.A preference for an older babysitter would also mean a consideration of the babysitter’s experience, although this doesn’t always follow. In fact, the experience factor will have more bearing than the age factor. This is particularly important if the child to be cared for is a baby or a toddler less than three years old. The services of a more experienced babysitter will be more suitable but the average babysitter rate will border on the higher end of the compensation range.2. The Time of DayThe average babysitter rate in this particular aspect can be a grey area in some cases. The regular babysitting-hours are said to be between 8:00am and 10:00pm. Accordingly, some parents contend that night time rates especially if to commence when the children are already sleeping should be less than the hourly rate applicable to daytime. There is more work involved during the day when the children are awake and are supposed to be more demanding. The need for a nighttime babysitter is more focused on having a mature and experienced person, left in charge of the kids in case of emergency situations. 3. The Use of a Babysitting Rate CalculatorSince the matter of average babysitter rate will serve only as a base point for the babysitter’s remuneration, you will find a babysitting rate calculator handy in order to compute for the nearest and most ideal amount. This information can either be used as basis to pay for the sitter or for a babysitter’s use as the amount she will charge for her services.Below are examples of how much the calculator will arrive at for three case scenarios with basically the same requirements but will differ only with the location. The parents would like an adult babysitter with 2 to 4 years experience to baby-sit their child who is under three years of age, from late night up to early morning when she will do some cooking and cleaning. How much will be the average babysitter rate be if the household is located in a:a. Town – Suggested rate is $14 per hour. b. Small City – Suggested rate is $15 per hour.c. Major City – Suggested rate is $16 per hour.Knowing the average babysitter rate is a guide to both parents and babysitters. This can help both parties determine what is expected from both of them, once they start with their employer–employee relationship.

Have you ever taken time to observe nature? Or truly digested
the unspoken wisdom it has to offer us? Fall’s appearance is
somewhat graceful as it gives its grand finale before it bids
adieu. Not paying attention, we didn’t notice the slight shift
of colors in the oaks and maples; nor did we see the aromatic
pines pregnant with their geometrical cones. In its sporadic and
beautiful display of life and death, Mother Nature is a catalyst
of human life.

As the days grow longer and the nights become colder, we
suddenly find ourselves reflecting upon our lives. Spring’s
green leaves no longer adorn and shade the earth below. Orange
and black monarchs no longer flutter in the distance. And right
before our eyes, wind-blown foliage gathers across our now,
wilting lawns. Almost bittersweet sorrow, we catch a glimpse of
deer and their young sprinting through a sleepy forest. In our
gardens, yellow and orange mums cleverly hide squirrels as they
scamper for fallen acorns, pecans and hazelnuts. Black birds
flock together as they prepare for their long winter journey to
the Southern warmth.

Watching nature’s kaleidoscope of transformations – life,
suddenly becomes clear. The endless cycle of metamorphosis is a
mirror image of our own selves. Nature’s Divine plan was so well
thought out that we, as human beings, could find resolve in its
simple constitution. Spring is an explosion of new life! Its
infantile beginning brings songbirds, buzzing bees, chirping
crickets, newborn babies, newborn wildlife, and a wide-awake
view of nature’s inherent offspring.

Slowly, the lazy days of summer creep into our lives. Towering
trees now sway from the weight of their greening foliage. Lawns
are vibrant green and bustling with tiny ants, arachnids and
honeybees. Ocean breezes beacon us with its tantalizing sandy
and salty aroma. Water is tepid and feels so soothing as we
splash and swim in hot, summer sun. Days are long and filled
with light and energetic rejuvenation. Sitting quietly on a park
bench, we watch kids at play, birds frolicking in birdbaths, and
flowers abloom everywhere. Sunsets melt into night like
fire-filled globe of molten lava.

Somehow, we missed the end of summer as nature’s methodical and
oh-so-slight transition into autumn became more and more
evident. Like a thief in the night, our warm breezes and green
leaves have vanished. Small woodland animals act more like
vultures as they frantically gather nuts, leaves and other
materials for their winter haul. Suddenly, life becomes full
circle. Did you see it?

You see — nature is a perfected reflection of you and me. Our
spring is the beginning of our life – our virtual existence. And
as we grow and mature, our summer becomes translucent. No longer
green behind the ears – we’ve experienced, we’ve thrived. We’ve
ripened and become the success of our own achievements. But then
comes our autumn. Like a butterfly’s cocoon, we have evolved.
Slowly, gently, quietly – the sands of time begin to flow more
freely. Before we realize it, we’ve become older, and now wiser.
Slower now, we sit and reflect upon our lives. We don’t ask
about the “what ifs,” the “whys” – we’ve merely become the fruit
of our labor. Time is no longer a question of, “how much,” but
of essence. Our little grandchildren now flock to our sides to
help us rise from our chairs. Our grown children drive us to our
destinations, and suddenly – life has come full circle. Young
toddlers trace the outlines of our wrinkles with their tiny
fingers. They don?t see the graying hairs and slowing pace. They
think “old” people are wise, gentle and sweet. Did you see it?
Not paying attention, we didn’t see the slight shift of age. We
didn’t notice the graceful, grand finale before we make our
final passage. Take some time today and observe nature. It may
just give you the answer to life you’ve been seeking.

And if it doesn’t answer your question, then perhaps it’ll make
you appreciate life just a little bit more than before.
